Electives or minor at an other UM faculty

Follow a pre-aproved minor an other UM faculty

Most UM faculties offer 'minors', however not all are suitable for FPN students. A pre-approved list of minors is available at https://www.maastrichtuniversity.nl/education/bachelors/minors/psychology.

- A minor has a study load of 24 or 30 ECTS
- A minor starts in period 1 or 2 and spans two or three periods.
- Minors are pre-approved by both faculties.

Follow an elective at an other UM faculty

Instead of a minor, you can also select one or more specific elective courses at other UM faculties.
Finding available courses can be a challenge as most faculties do not advertise special elective courses but allow enrollment into regular courses. Be aware that some courses might have a numerus fixus.

- You get ECTS as shown in the course overview on  curriculum.maastrichtuniversity.nl.
- Both faculties need to approve the request.

Orientation

Electives and Minor programs are available at most faculties at Maastricht University. These usually run in periods 1, 2 and 3 and will earn you a minimum of 24 ECTS and a maximum of 30 ECTS. You can choose  electives from any UM faculty, or decide to do one of the pre-approved minors that are available to FPN students.

• Select the minor course (if you can find it, not always the case) or
• Select all the courses of the minor and

FAQ and Contact

Questions about UM electives and minors

Is it 'first come, first served' ?
Yes, most faculties will book on a 'first come, first served' basis. Some of them might even make it imposible to book the course, once it is fully booked.

Is it possible that I don't get accepted for a minor?
Yes. Our tip is to arrange approval early, so that you have the time to register for alternatives such as FPN electives.

Special Course Request: the field "academic session" is empty
In the field 'Academic Session", you should be able to select the period of the course. If it is empty, it could mean that the course is full. Contact the faculty  that offers the course.

Special Course Request: I get the error 'no valid registration for selected program'
You need a re-registration as a student for the next year, as the electives take place in the following year. Re-register via Studielink first, see 'Preparing for the next academic year > Continuing your current study'.
