In periods 1, 2 and 3 of the 3rd-year of the Bachelor, you are given the opportunity to take electives.
The main goal is to provide an opportunity to expand your knowledge base of psychology beyond the general education and departmental requirements, and adjust it to your personal interests. It is also a way to participate in courses outside your own faculty.
You have to obtain a total of 24 European credits (ECTS) for your elective program. When choosing from the options, not only consider your interest in a certain topic but also requirements of Master programmes you might want to apply for.
So many options, but keep your study load in mind
Study load: combining electives and the thesis
At the end of period 3, you will have to submit the first version of your bachelor thesis. This means you will also have to work on your bachelor thesis in period 1, 2 or 3.
Carefully plan the writing of your thesis and taking electives, and make sure these activities do not interfere. For example, when you take all your electives in period 1 and 2, you can work on your thesis full time during period 3. If you take an elective in period 3, you will probably not have sufficient time for your thesis in that period. In that case, our advice is to finish the first version of your bachelor thesis before Christmas. Start in time with your thesis so that you do not run out of time.
Study load: still need to take a course of the 1st or 2nd year?
If you still have to take courses of the first and second year (no pass for attendance, no pass for the exam), please note: past experience has shown that combining the elective program with 1st and/or 2nd year Bachelor courses is largely impossible, because schedules overlap and the combined study load is beyond what most students can handle. Students are therefore strongly advised to minimize participation in elective courses running parallel to 1st and/or 2nd year bachelor courses they still have to take. Need support?
