There may be reasons (personal or practical) why you are unable to attend a course when you are supposed to according to the programme outline. Although courses can be taken in later years, this is often not practical or feasible. We advise you to contact the Academic Advisers before you decide to skip or cancel a course.
We urge you to deregister for your courses and exams as soon as possible so that the Education Office can allocate its time and resources efficiently. If you miss one or more meetings, see 'Rules and Regulations > 'Attendance Requirements'.
Deregistering for a course or exam during the booking window
If you will not be attending a course or exam, please cancel your registration via the Student Portal during the relevant course booking window and/or the exam registration window.Deregistering for a course or exam after the booking window
• Courses can be cancelled up to the week before the first teaching activity of that course. Please send an email to askpsy@maastrichtuniversity.nl if you do not wish to attend in a course.• Exams and resits cannot be cancelled after the booking window has expired, regardless of the reason.
Consequences of not cancelling an exam, resit or course
• If you are registered for a course and you do not attend that course, the overall grade for the course will appear in the Student Portal as NG (=not graded), because you failed the attendance.• If you are registered for an exam/resit and you do not take it, the exam/resit will appear in the Student Portal as graded with NG (=not graded).
The NG grade will not affect your GPA as this is calculated over the courses you have passed. Nor will it appear on the transcript you received with your diploma, nor will it prevent you from graduating with distinction (cum laude) if you meet all the requirements. However, it may affect your MaRBLe status and your eligibility to tutor at UM.
Students with special exam arrangements
If you will be absent from an exam with special arrangements, you need to notify the Exams Coordinators so that any provisions (such as the room reservation and invigilator) can be cancelled. Please note that if you are absent without prior notification, you may be contacted by the Board of Examiners. Please also note that you will still need to cancel the exam via the Student Portal and that the exam registration will not be cancelled once the booking window has expired (see Cancelling courses or exams).Contact
Please contact the Education Office if you have questions about the course or exam registration. You should report any technical problems when trying to register for courses and/or exams immediately. If you report a problem after the booking window has expired, the token regulation will be applicable.
